Voice Season 13 – My Favorites

Voice season 13 concluded recently, and I wasn’t too happy with the outcome. But this posting isn’t bout bitching bout the results. What I would like to write about is my two favorites from the show.

Moriah Formica

Firstly, Moriah Formica. This pint size powerhouse is just amazing, she’s the old school rocker, something which we don’t have much of nowadays. Sadly, she didn’t even make it to the top 12 (damn you Miley), but I believe that she was still better than most of the selected top 12. Her blind audition is below:

I later found out that she’s been singing this songs at gigs, hence why she’s so good. You should check out her YouTube channel here. My fave video from her channel is the one below:

The fact that she was only 15 when this video was taken really says something bout how good she is. Somehow I feel that the songs she was given during her whole Voice journey didn’t really highlight her strengths, but I guess not everyone appreciates hard rock songs. Oh well. Hope she goes places after this, I’d love to hear more from her.

Addison Agen

Another one that I liked was Addison Agen. She’s like the total opposite of Moriah. Addison is like the flower blossom sensitive girl that’s everybody’s sweetheart. I don’t care much for her sweetness and all that, but what I like is her voice, this girl can really sing. Miley would have been kicking herself if Addison took first place, but even coming in second probably hurt her.

(Side note: my respect for Miley Cyrus has gone way way up since the voice, coz she really impressed me with her maturity, but she made two bad calls, first was letting Addison go, and second was not picking Moriah for top 12).

Anyway, my fave Addison performance is below:

Ironically, she almost got eliminated coz of this performance (thank you Adam for saving her), but I just believe Miley made a bad call.

Addison has a youtube channel too, but there’s only 2 videos there and it hasn’t been updated for 2 years, so check out her Facebook page for updates, that seems to be more active.

So the two people kept me interested in The Voice this season, though my interest did die down a bit when Moriah got eliminated. I was hoping Addison would win it, but it wasn’t meant to be. Adam has taken a liking to her though, so Addison prob has a brighter future than Moriah.

I’m looking forward to the next season of Voice, starts in February I believe. Coaches will be Adam and Blake (naturally), Alicia Keys and Kelly Clarkson. Let’s see what happens then.

Fall TV Watchlist

So the fall TV shows started a few weeks back. I’ve been wanting to post what I’m watching this season but I’ve been rather busy, so anyway, here it is:

First up is Arrow. I’ve been watching this series since it began and I’ve liked the way the story has been going. Still think they should find less ways to torment Oliver though.

The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow
I’ve lumped these two series together because they’re all part of the Arrowverse. The first two seasons of Flash was good, but it’s somewhat slowed down a bit. This current season looks promising though. Same thing with Legends, they’re gonna need a good season this time round if they wanna get renewed.

Star Trek Discovery
The first Star Trek TV series since Enterprise is shaping up to be real good. It’s the darkest out of all the ST series (the Enterprise Xindi arc and DS9 Dominion arc were dark too, but nothing compared to this). They revamped the Klingons a lot though, and I’m still getting used to that. But it does make the Klingons look meaner.

The Blacklist
Another series I’ve been following since the start. This season looks like it’s gonna be the best ever, how Raymond is gonna build up his empire again.

Hawaii Five-0
The departure of Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim is gonna hurt this series a bit, but so far they seem to be doing ok. Wouldn’t be surprised if GP and DDK make a cameo appearance sometime this season.

The Big Bang Theory
Not much to say here, season 11 now and renewed till season 12. And it hasn’t gotten stale either.

Katherine McPhee, nuff said.

Seal Team
A new series this fall, it’s not as brutal as Strike Back but I still find it really good. Full season ordered, so that’s a good sign.

The Orville
This is a light Star Trek knock-off, but it’s quite entertaining. And Adrianne Palicki is in it, so that’s reason enough to watch it.

Aside from the above, I’m also watching Inhumans (which doesn’t deserve it’s own section yet), and waiting for the second wave of series to start. That will be covered in my next posting.

Game of Thrones S07E04 Thoughts

It’s that time of the week again. As usual, here is the preview of the next episode:

If you haven’t watched episode 4, stop reading now.

  1. Arya reaches Winterfell. Long overdue.
  2. Arya sits in Winterfell looking around. Long Overdue.
  3. Arya and Sansa. Long overdue.
  4. Arya looks like the most deadly Stark right now. Since she has a Valerian Steel dagger now, I won’t be surprised if she starts chopping down White Walkers.
  5. Daenarys is just bad ass.
  6. Drogon is awesome.
  7. There goes the Lannister Army. And they looked so good in episode 3 too.
  8. Medieval air support anyone?
  9. What was Jaime thinking charging Drogon like that.
  10. Good thing Bronn saved Jaime, I think he shouldn’t die and should live to the end to see what his sister did.
  11. I hope Drogon is ok. Looks like he’s fine in the trailer for episode 5. But it’ll be stupid if a dragon gets killed just coz of one bolt.

Just 3 more episodes left, sigh.

Episode 3 Thoughts

Game of Thrones S07E03 Thoughts

Here are my thoughts on the latest episode of GOT yesterday, but before that, the trailer for the next episode:

If you haven’t watched episode 3, stop reading now.

1. Cersei is just pure evil. Credit to Lena Headey for playing the role so well.

2. The Sand Snakes are definitely gone, sad end to them 😦

3. Tyrion has been outmaneuvered big time. But I believe he will come good.

4. Exit the Tyrells, and Dorne isn’t really gone but they’re stuck on the island with no leadership, so technically gone.

5. Sansa is cool.

6. No Arya 😦

7. One reunion down, one more reunion to go.

8. Will Theon rescue his sister? Episode 4 trailer implies that.

9. The Unsullied are in trouble. No ships and no food.

10. Sansa is cool.

11. Olenna Tyrell is pure class.

12. The Lannister Army looked awesome.

On to episode 4.

Episode 2 Thoughts

Game of Thrones S07E02 Thoughts

I watched the latest episode of GOT last night, so before I give my comments on the episode, here’s the trailer for episode 3:

If you haven’t watched episode 2, stop reading now.

Still here? Ok, here’s what I thought of the episode:

1. The Sand Snakes are gone 😦 Yes, one survived (for now), but they’re basically gone. Pity, would have loved watching them kick ass.

2. Nymeria didn’t follow Arya. Again, this is for now, but I was hoping of a better reunion. At least Arya is on the way back to Winterfell, can’t wait for her reunion with Sansa.

3. The Sand Snakes are gone 😦

4. Euron Greyjoy is a badass. He was just chopping down everyone for fun.

5. How did Yara’s fleet get caught so off guard? Yes, it was night, but Euron knew where to look.

6. Balerion was a huge Dragon.

7. One of the dragons will die, prob not Drogon though.

8. Lyanna Mormont is a badass, she steals every scene she’s in.

9. The Sand Snakes are gone 😦

10. Is Dorne out of the picture now?

11. Theon the wimp. Will he ever redeem himself?

12. Poor Ellaria.

Looking forward to episode 3.

Cartoons I Watched Growing Up

Nowadays, the only cartoon I watch is Star Wars Rebels, but when I was growing up, man, there were tons of cartoons that I watched. So this post is dedicated to the ones I liked.

Naturally, the first one on the list is my fave cartoon of all time, Transformers.

This is one cartoon that should have lasted longer, too bad the popularity of this series was driven by the merchandise, and when all the licensing issues got in the way, the cartoon had to stop. I had a bunch of Transformers toys, never got Megatron or Optimus Prime though, but I did have Starscream, the Aerialbots and the Stunticons. I had Jazz also but he was sold off to my brother’s friend some years back. The deal was too good to say no to, plus I did need the cash anyway. The rest of my collection is somewhere at my parents’ place, provided my brother hasn’t sold it all off already, hahaha.

Anyway, back in the day, when I first got hooked on Transformers, they weren’t showing it on TV yet so I had to rely on the videos I rented from the video store (remember those? Can’t find them anymore). Was so happy when they finally started showing it on TV. It was so difficult to watch stuff back then, if you had no VCR with timer recording capabilities, you’d end up missing everything.

Read about the cartoon series here.

Next up is my second favorite cartoon, Robotech.

I really loved this series, watched all episodes, bought the novels, comics, sourcebooks, everything. This is another cartoon that came to an abrupt end due to various issues. Up till today, they’re still trying to sort out what happened after Scott Bernard left earth, and there’s been various versions. They’ve also been talking bout making a live-action movie for years. Nothing in sight yet though despite all the talk.

Read more bout Robotech here.

GI Joe

GI Joe, another popular 80s cartoon, and also another one of my faves. There’s been several GI Joe cartoons but nothing beats the original.

The only thing I didn’t like about this series was the use of “lasers” instead of normal ammunition, but since it was a cartoon, they had to make it child-friendly. Wonder how lasers are considered child-friendly though. This cartoon was made into a live-action movie, but the less said about that the better.

If you have time, do look out for the GI Joe comics, some of those were really good, and there’s been various incarnations of the comics with various storylines. Snake Eyes is always deadly in all of them though.

Read more about GI Joe here.

The Mobile Armored Strike Kommand (with a K not a C).

Another series that was very much toy-driven, and another series that died out when toy sales went down. I still have my MASK toys at my parents’ place actually, unless my brother has sold it off or something. Probably worth quite a bit now. Must say that the MASK toys were one of the better designed toys out there. Most of what you saw on TV was replicated nicely to the toy (unlike the Transformers toys that had such huge disparity in sizes).  The only thing you didn’t have was the mask dropping on the driver’s head, haha. I remember one episode, was a bit funny seeing the mask drop down on the motorcycle (Condor) rider’s head.

Read more about it here. You can also read my earlier post about MASK here.

Another series I diligently watched, and another that was also quite toy driven. The only difference between this and other toy-driven series was that Thundercats actually had a real good story line. The toy was a bit crappy though, too big, too chunky, and too rigid.

Read more about it here.

Saber Rider

Finally, a cartoon that I believe wasn’t toy-driven.

I loved this cartoon, good story lines, and not too cheesy. Peter Cullen was also the voice of the ship, Ramrod. That name sound familiar? Heh. I remember the first time I heard Ramrod speak during the transformation sequence. I knew who the voice belonged to and I made it a point to look through the credits to see if I was right, and when I saw the name, I knew I was. This series was another one that was originally done in Japan under a diff name and concept and turned into something different (and better) in the US.

Read bout the cartoon here.

There are other cartoons that I want to highlight, but I’m rushing a bit here so I’ll just mention the names and maybe one day I’ll write about it.

He-Man, Starcom, BraveStarr, Silverhawks, Centurions, Ninja Turtles, Dastardly and Muttley, Pirates of Dark Water, Galaxy Rangers, and Visionaries. I’ll post bout them sometime in the near future (hopefully).
