Game of Thrones 80s Intro

Someone posted this on FB, enjoy it before it gets taken down. Quite a cool video actually.

This video actually brings back memories of how TV intros used to be. Ah, the good old days.

Game of Thrones S07E03 Thoughts

Here are my thoughts on the latest episode of GOT yesterday, but before that, the trailer for the next episode:

If you haven’t watched episode 3, stop reading now.

**** SPOILER ALERT ****

1. Cersei is just pure evil. Credit to Lena Headey for playing the role so well.

2. The Sand Snakes are definitely gone, sad end to them 😦

3. Tyrion has been outmaneuvered big time. But I believe he will come good.

4. Exit the Tyrells, and Dorne isn’t really gone but they’re stuck on the island with no leadership, so technically gone.

5. Sansa is cool.

6. No Arya 😦

7. One reunion down, one more reunion to go.

8. Will Theon rescue his sister? Episode 4 trailer implies that.

9. The Unsullied are in trouble. No ships and no food.

10. Sansa is cool.

11. Olenna Tyrell is pure class.

12. The Lannister Army looked awesome.

On to episode 4.

Episode 2 Thoughts

Soundtrack: The Crow

As the description in my blog says, I am a man of many interests, and I just realized that I haven’t written about my love of music. Of course talking about how much I love music and what types of songs I listen to and what not is gonna be really long, and I’m not ready to write about that yet, so I’m gonna narrow it down (a lot) and just talk about one of my favorite movie soundtracks, the soundtrack from the Crow.

A little bit about the movie before I start talking about the songs. This movie is of course famous for being the last movie that Brandon Lee made, and was based on a comic book. It was tragic that he died on the set while making this movie. I loved his movies, watched almost all of them. One day I’ll write bout my fave movie starring Brandon Lee.

Anyway, on to the soundtrack. Back in the day, when there were no mp3 players (even mp3s didn’t exist then), and when I had to listen to cassettes  (CD Players were still a bit expensive then), you had to rely on making your own mix tapes to have a good playlist of songs that you wanted to listen to. So this soundtrack was something you could just listen to end-to-end, everything was good. I’m gonna highlight a few of my fave tracks.

The soundtrack starts off strongly with the song “Burn” by the Cure. This song is still in my playlist up till today. It’s by the Cure, nothing more has to be said.

The next song is “Big Empty” by Stone Temple Pilots. Another great song. But what else can you expect from STP? RIP Scott Weiland.

Next song is “Dead Souls” by Nine Inch Nails. Just found out that NIN weren’t the original singers as I was writing this post.

“Time Baby III” is a funny name for a song, and I’ve never heard of the group “Medicine” (even up till today I don’t know who they are), but this song was very nice and catchy in a sorta Gothic like way.

So if you have time, do look up the soundtrack and listen to it, and watch the movie too. I’ll be writing more about music and Soundtracks in future.

Game of Thrones S07E02 Thoughts

I watched the latest episode of GOT last night, so before I give my comments on the episode, here’s the trailer for episode 3:

If you haven’t watched episode 2, stop reading now.

**** SPOILER ALERT ****

Still here? Ok, here’s what I thought of the episode:

1. The Sand Snakes are gone 😦 Yes, one survived (for now), but they’re basically gone. Pity, would have loved watching them kick ass.

2. Nymeria didn’t follow Arya. Again, this is for now, but I was hoping of a better reunion. At least Arya is on the way back to Winterfell, can’t wait for her reunion with Sansa.

3. The Sand Snakes are gone 😦

4. Euron Greyjoy is a badass. He was just chopping down everyone for fun.

5. How did Yara’s fleet get caught so off guard? Yes, it was night, but Euron knew where to look.

6. Balerion was a huge Dragon.

7. One of the dragons will die, prob not Drogon though.

8. Lyanna Mormont is a badass, she steals every scene she’s in.

9. The Sand Snakes are gone 😦

10. Is Dorne out of the picture now?

11. Theon the wimp. Will he ever redeem himself?

12. Poor Ellaria.

Looking forward to episode 3.

SW GOH: Heroic Rancor Solo

If you’ve been following my posts, then you should know that my Guild has been doing Heroic Rancor since Feb, and that my Han Solo has been maxed for quite a while already. However, the Rancor raid is still important coz of the gear you get.

Since my Han is maxed, I usually just target top 10 placing for the better gear drops, but I am capable of soloing the raid. I’ve done that with two diff squads, here’s the first:

This was done with the “traditional” Rancor solo squad. Problem with the above is that it’s tedious and even though you can auto certain portions on basic attack only, it’s pretty much manual work, and it’s long, takes close to an hour. I’ve only done this once just to prove I could solo it, but I’m prob not gonna bother again. Plus this run got a bit scary coz I lost TFP in P4. Maybe it’ll be better if my Phasma gears up.

The above was done a few days ago and I finally got my Zader team to work. This lineup still requires manual work but it’s a bit faster. Notice that Rex scores less damage on this lineup compared to the first one, so that alone shows how much faster this squad is. My GMT will prob do better once he’s geared up more.

I’ll prob be experimenting with diff lineups somewhere down the line. Will post updates when that happens.

Cartoons I Watched Growing Up

Nowadays, the only cartoon I watch is Star Wars Rebels, but when I was growing up, man, there were tons of cartoons that I watched. So this post is dedicated to the ones I liked.

Transformers

Naturally, the first one on the list is my fave cartoon of all time, Transformers.

This is one cartoon that should have lasted longer, too bad the popularity of this series was driven by the merchandise, and when all the licensing issues got in the way, the cartoon had to stop. I had a bunch of Transformers toys, never got Megatron or Optimus Prime though, but I did have Starscream, the Aerialbots and the Stunticons. I had Jazz also but he was sold off to my brother’s friend some years back. The deal was too good to say no to, plus I did need the cash anyway. The rest of my collection is somewhere at my parents’ place, provided my brother hasn’t sold it all off already, hahaha.

Anyway, back in the day, when I first got hooked on Transformers, they weren’t showing it on TV yet so I had to rely on the videos I rented from the video store (remember those? Can’t find them anymore). Was so happy when they finally started showing it on TV. It was so difficult to watch stuff back then, if you had no VCR with timer recording capabilities, you’d end up missing everything.

Read about the cartoon series here.

Robotech

Next up is my second favorite cartoon, Robotech.

I really loved this series, watched all episodes, bought the novels, comics, sourcebooks, everything. This is another cartoon that came to an abrupt end due to various issues. Up till today, they’re still trying to sort out what happened after Scott Bernard left earth, and there’s been various versions. They’ve also been talking bout making a live-action movie for years. Nothing in sight yet though despite all the talk.

Read more bout Robotech here.

GI Joe

GI Joe, another popular 80s cartoon, and also another one of my faves. There’s been several GI Joe cartoons but nothing beats the original.

The only thing I didn’t like about this series was the use of “lasers” instead of normal ammunition, but since it was a cartoon, they had to make it child-friendly. Wonder how lasers are considered child-friendly though. This cartoon was made into a live-action movie, but the less said about that the better.

If you have time, do look out for the GI Joe comics, some of those were really good, and there’s been various incarnations of the comics with various storylines. Snake Eyes is always deadly in all of them though.

Read more about GI Joe here.

Mask

The Mobile Armored Strike Kommand (with a K not a C).

Another series that was very much toy-driven, and another series that died out when toy sales went down. I still have my MASK toys at my parents’ place actually, unless my brother has sold it off or something. Probably worth quite a bit now. Must say that the MASK toys were one of the better designed toys out there. Most of what you saw on TV was replicated nicely to the toy (unlike the Transformers toys that had such huge disparity in sizes).  The only thing you didn’t have was the mask dropping on the driver’s head, haha. I remember one episode, was a bit funny seeing the mask drop down on the motorcycle (Condor) rider’s head.

Read more about it here. You can also read my earlier post about MASK here.

Thundercats

Another series I diligently watched, and another that was also quite toy driven. The only difference between this and other toy-driven series was that Thundercats actually had a real good story line. The toy was a bit crappy though, too big, too chunky, and too rigid.

Read more about it here.

Saber Rider

Finally, a cartoon that I believe wasn’t toy-driven.

I loved this cartoon, good story lines, and not too cheesy. Peter Cullen was also the voice of the ship, Ramrod. That name sound familiar? Heh. I remember the first time I heard Ramrod speak during the transformation sequence. I knew who the voice belonged to and I made it a point to look through the credits to see if I was right, and when I saw the name, I knew I was. This series was another one that was originally done in Japan under a diff name and concept and turned into something different (and better) in the US.

Read bout the cartoon here.

Others

There are other cartoons that I want to highlight, but I’m rushing a bit here so I’ll just mention the names and maybe one day I’ll write about it.

He-Man, Starcom, BraveStarr, Silverhawks, Centurions, Ninja Turtles, Dastardly and Muttley, Pirates of Dark Water, Galaxy Rangers, and Visionaries. I’ll post bout them sometime in the near future (hopefully).

Game of Thrones: Season 7 Episode 2 Preview

So I have this habit, my blog sometimes stays quiet for weeks, and when I start posting, there’s multiple updates a day.

Anyway, I’ve been following GOT since the beginning, and no, I’m not one of those who jumped on the bandwagon when the series became popular. I watched the first episode when it was released, liked what I saw and continued watching until today, and this is with me not knowing who George R.R. Martin was until after I started watching the TV series. And no, I still haven’t read the books yet, purists can say what they want but I like good television.

Ok, whole point of this post is to post the link to the trailer for episode 2, check it out below:

Episode 1 was awesome. Yes, it was a “setup” episode for things to come, but it was done really well. I was expecting Arya to slaughter Ed Sheeren and gang though, but that didn’t happen.

I usually hate Mondays, but now that GOT is in-season, I kinda look forward to it. FYI, because of the time zone I’m in, GOT comes out in the morning here, so I can only watch it at night when I get back from work.

Can’t wait for episode 2. Looks like Arya finds Nymeria, that’ll be one hell of a reunion.
